A glimpse into its turbulent past
Lohagad Fort has seen the rise and fall of various kingdoms over its turbulent history, serving as a bastion against Lohtamia, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Yadavas, Bahamanis, Nizams, Mughals and Marathas throughout its lifetime. Now visitors can learn about this fascinating past through four entrances: Ganesh Darwaza adorned with Lord Ganesh statues; Narayan Darwaza, built during fort maintenance by Nana Phadnavis during maintenance work; Maha Darwaza; and Hanuman Darwaza; each claim to be among these four in their time frame of existence!
Nature’s delight
Lohagad Fort offers tourists breathtaking views of the Western Ghats, featuring Pavana reservoir to the south and an undulating hill leading west with Vinchukada or "Scorpion's Tail", named due to its distinctive shape.
Also, an excursion to the nearby Visapur fort adds another level of exploration.
Lohagad Fort's historical significance was elevated further in 2019 through an intriguing find: an inscription written in Jain Brahmi script written in Prakrit was discovered on its eastern side near Lohagad Wadi village near Lohagad Wadi village near Lohagad. This discovery bears similarities to another discovered at Maval's Pale caves in Maval, providing valuable insights into its past.
