The Archaeology Museum at Deccan College, established in 1940, in the city of Pune, Maharashtra, is a must-visit to understand the history of ancient India. Within its six galleries, the museum takes you through time, with cultural remains of the human past exhibited from the Stone Age, Mesolithic Age, Chalcolithic Age, and Megalithic Age, along with exhibits on archaeology and ethnographic epigraphy. Each gallery is thoughtfully curated for an enthralling educational experience, taking you back into the lives of early humans and the evolution of Indian history and culture.
What makes the museum even more engaging are its outreach programmes. If you're a teacher, you can attend workshops and lectures that take you deeper into archaeology, helping you bring history to life in your classroom. For general visitors, exhibitions and slide shows offer a fascinating way to understand India’s ancient heritage. The museum also serves as a centre for researchers, providing access to original artefacts from excavated sites across the country.
