Where Mist, Mountains, and Coffee Meet

Tucked away in the northeastern highlands of Kerala, Wayanad, derived from Vayal Nadu, meaning the land of paddy fields, is a breathtaking plateau draped in misty hills, emerald forests, and serene valleys. Sharing its edges with Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, this enchanting district is often fondly called the Ooty of Kerala for its cool climate, spice plantations, and sprawling tea and coffee estates.

Wayanad’s terrain is a vibrant mosaic of nature and culture: mountains piercing the clouds, shimmering lakes, forested trekking trails, cascading waterfalls, and ancient caves that whisper stories of early civilizations. It is also home to India’s largest earthen dam, Banasura Sagar, and the prehistoric Edakkal Caves, where carvings dating as far back as 6000 BC still stand as a bridge to another era.

Adding to its charm is Wayanad’s long-standing tradition of cultivating Robusta coffee, grown under the shade of evergreen forests at altitudes of 700–2100 meters. This specialty, recognized as the district’s ODOP (One District One Product) enriches the region not only economically but experientially. Every cup carries the aroma of its unique terroir, shaped by Wayanad’s forest canopy, cool climate, and nutrient-rich soil. The coffee-chocolate notes drifting through plantation trails blend beautifully into the sensory tapestry of Wayanad, making it as much a place to savour as to explore.
