A chill retreat for everyone
Sim's Park was named after the British Officer Mr. J.D. Sims, who served as Secretary to the Government. This place began as a chill retreat for anyone in need of a peaceful escape. But in 1874, Major Murray and J.D. Sims worked their magic and turned this spot into a full-blown botanical garden. Fast forward to today, and it's a top-notch destination for nature-loving tourists.
Whether you're rolling in with your family or your significant other or flying solo, Sim's Park is the perfect place to unwind. It's conveniently located just a short distance away from Coonoor Railway Station, making it super easy to get to. So come and let the scattered trees and indigenous plants enchant you!
A sensory adventure awaits
One of Sims Park's main highlights is the annual fruits and vegetable show, which is a real crowd-puller. Held in the month of May, it has been a tradition for over five decades, thanks to the Department of Horticulture. This two-day event is a vibrant display of exotic plant species that bring life and colour to the already lush surroundings. The park’s other highlights are no less charming, especially the glass house and the spectacular rose garden.
Walking through the garden is a sensory adventure, with flowers from different families in full bloom, creating a kaleidoscope of colours and scents that will leave you spellbound. And if you're obsessed with plants, you won't want to miss the Botanical Garden, which has the most extensive collection of temperate plants in India. Otherwise, you can also chill out and enjoy a relaxing boat ride on the tranquil lake.
