Celebrating devotion and victory
If you’re visiting the temple in winter, you must attend one of the main events celebrated there, which is the Thaipoosam Thiruvizha, an annual festival that attracts a large number of pilgrims and visitors. Held in January or February, this festival commemorates the victory of Lord Murugan over the demon Soorapadman, symbolising the triumph of good over evil. Join the devotees who gather in large numbers to participate in processions, special prayers, and rituals. Some devotees observe the tradition of kavadi attam, where they carry elaborately decorated heavy wooden poles with two baskets suspended from it, containing offerings to the deity, as a form of penance and devotion and feel the vibrant energy and spiritual devotion for yourself.
