A land of forests and wildlife

Similipal National Park, located in Mayurbhanj district, is Odisha’s largest wildlife sanctuary and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Spread across 2,750 sq km, it is home to Royal Bengal Tigers, Asian elephants, Indian bison (gaur), leopards, mugger crocodiles, and over 300 bird species. The park is named after the Simul (silk cotton) tree, which grows in abundance here. Dense forests, grasslands, rivers, and waterfalls form the landscape of Similipal, promising an unforgettable time in nature.

A sanctuary also for other wonders

Similipal is not just about wildlife — it's a treasure trove of rare medicinal plants, orchids, and tribal villages. You can go on jeep safaris to spot wildlife, trek to waterfalls like Barehipani and Joranda, which are perfect spots for photography. If you enjoy nature, you will also enjoy bird-watching, and exploring tribal villages around the park. It is a place for eco-tourism and tribal traditions, offering an immersive experience of Odisha’s natural and cultural heritage.

Other activities to do there

Besides safaris, visitors can enjoy nature walks and bird-watching trails, as the park is a paradise for bird lovers. For adventure seekers, trekking routes through deep forests leading to waterfalls provide thrilling experiences. Interacting with local tribal communities gives a chance to learn about indigenous traditions, art, and forest living.
