A place of artistry and spiritual devotion

Located in Khiching, the Kichakeshwari Temple is a beautiful specimen of Odisha’s medieval stone architecture, dedicated to Goddess Kichakeshwari, another form of Goddess Chamunda Devi. Built between the 8th and 10th centuries by the Bhanja rulers, the temple is entirely constructed from chlorite stone, famous for its smooth finish and durability, making its exquisite carvings remarkably well-preserved.

A sacred and historic site

The temple walls are adorned with captivating sculptures of deities, celestial beings, and ornate motifs. As an important Shakti Peetha, it draws pilgrims from across the region. Nearby, the Khiching Museum houses a rich collection of ancient artifacts and sculptures, providing a deeper insight into the area’s heritage.

Other activities to do there

Visitors can explore the Khiching archaeological ruins surrounding the temple, which give a deeper understanding of the ancient Bhanja dynasty. The local museum tour offers a fascinating look into the temple’s history and regional art forms. Pilgrims can also participate in temple rituals and festivals, particularly during Navratri.
