Honouring the Past, Inspiring the Future

Step into Smritivan Earthquake Memorial and Museum, also known as the Forest of Memories, a captivating monument that stands as the largest of its kind in modern India! Spanning a magnificent 470 acres and perched atop the scenic Bhujiyo Dungar hill, just on the outskirts of Bhuj, this extraordinary site shares its space with the historic Bhujia Fort, which boasts a rich heritage of over 300 years. The Smritivan Earthquake Memorial is a poignant tribute featuring 50 stunning check-dam reservoirs that carry the names of nearly 13,000 victims of the 2001 earthquake. But these thoughtfully designed reservoirs don’t just honour memories, they actively recharge the local water levels, breathing new life into the surrounding flora. The very rocks of these reservoirs are destined to nurture new life, growing and thriving in their natural cracks.

Every element of the Museum resonates with themes of regeneration, sustainability, and an inspiring vision for a hopeful future. Prepare to be mesmerised as you explore the seven blocks of the Museum, each with its own world of discovery. These interactive galleries -Rebirth, Rediscover, Restore, Rebuild, Rethink, Relive, and Renew - are not only educational but also look straight out of a science fiction dreamscape!
