Tripurari Poornima Festival – Sankhali

Celebrated on the full moon night of the Hindu month of Kartika, the Tripurari Poornima Festival, also known as Dev Diwali, commemorates the legendary victory of Lord Shiva over the demon Tripurasura and marks the symbolic end of the Diwali season.

The festival is observed with grand religious processions, illuminated temples, devotional music, and thousands of oil lamps lighting up riverbanks in a spectacular display. The celebrations take place at Vithalapur, Sankhali, on the banks of the Valvanti River, in the presence of the Shri Vithala Rakhumai Temple. The highlight of the festival is the State Level Boat Competition,  a spectacular showcase of creativity in which more than 30+ handcrafted miniature boats, crafted from cardboard and thermocol by teams from across Goa, are sailed in the river basin in a vibrant parade of artistry and craftsmanship.

The Tripurari Poornima Festival has firmly established itself as one of Goa's most distinctive cultural tourism events, beautifully blending devotion, folk art, and community celebration in the heart of Sankhali.
