Patna Sahib Mahotsav

Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Sikh Guru, was born at Takhat Sri Patna Sahib in the center of Bihar's city. To commemorate his birth anniversary (Prakash Parv) and the lasting influence of the Sikh faith in Bihar, the Patna Sahib Mahotsav is a massive spiritual and cultural event. It serves as a symbol of global fraternity, drawing pilgrims and tourists to the banks of the Holy Ganges from all over the world.

Significance of the Mahotsav

The celebration is a powerful manifestation of the Sikh ethos of Chardi Kala (everlasting optimism) and Bihar's heterogeneous identity:

• A Sacred Birthplace: Patna Sahib is a major spiritual occasion on the Sikh calendar worldwide since it is one of the five Takhats (Seats of Authority) of Sikhism.

• The Spirit of Seva: With enormous communal kitchens (Langar) feeding thousands of people regardless of caste or faith, the Mahotsav emphasizes the custom of selfless devotion.

• Historical Resilience: It honors the life of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, a philosopher, poet, and warrior who grew up in Patna and left a legacy of equality and bravery.

Immersive Activities

The festival is a profoundly touching event full of discipline and spiritual vitality:

• Nagar Kirtan: A large, vibrant parade that includes the Panj Pyare, traditional martial arts (Gatka), and poignant performances by schoolchildren and brass bands.

• Gurbani Kirtan: Inside the exquisitely lit Gurudwara, world-famous Ragis perform soul-stirring devotional singing.

• Martial Arts (Gatka): Stunning demonstrations of traditional Sikh weaponry and swordsmanship that highlight the Khalsa's spirit of war.

• Cultural Exhibitions: Sikhism's history in Eastern India and displays of Guru Gobind Singh Ji's historical artifacts
