A masterpiece of Gupta artistry
The beautifully sculpted door frame of Da Parbatia is its crowning glory. Intricate floral patterns and exquisite figurines of Ganga and Yamuna, the two Hindu goddesses, grace its jambs, holding garlands in a gesture of divine welcome. The intricate carvings on the doorway, adorned with floral patterns, religious motifs, and divine figurines, speak volumes about the craftsmanship of the Guptaa-era.
From ruins to reverence
The history of Da Parbatia Temple is as fascinating as its design. Built during the Gupta period, the temple had withstood centuries of storms and earthquakes. During the Ahom period, a Shiva temple was constructed over the ruins of the original structure. However, the devastating earthquake of 1987 unearthed the temple’s ancient door frame, which was then excavated and is preserved by the Archaeological Survey of India. Today, it stands as a protected monument.
