Come experience the spirit of Assam

When you visit Bharali Naamghar near Tezpur, you’ll feel the simplicity of prayer and a deep sense of peace. This sacred site has a history of resilience; it was once burned down by the Burmese Army during their invasion of Assam (1817–1826) but was later rebuilt by the local community with immense dedication. Today, it stands as a symbol of faith and unity, surrounded by greenery and a calm atmosphere.

A temple for prayer and communal harmony

Bharali Naamghar is more than a prayer hall, it’s a temple of devotion and togetherness. One of its most fascinating features is the Laikhuta, the main pillar of the building, which is made from the holy Tulsi tree. The Laikhuta is preserved near the Simhasana, (Guruasana), a platform central to prayers and rituals. Devotees believe that Bharali Naamghar has the power to fulfill wishes. You’ll feel a connection to the divines as you sit listening to the kirtans (devotional hymns) and the sounds of traditional music.

Simplicity that will touch your heart

Unlike grand temples, Bharali Naamghar reflects the simplicity of Assamese spirituality. Its humble design, featuring a wooden platform and sacred spaces like the Laikhuta and the Simhasana, chooses faith over grandeur. This austerity makes it even more meaningful, reminding you that spirituality is about devotion, not decoration.
