Chasing the desert dream

What is your idea of a perfect desert safari? To be carried away by the gentle sway of camel rides or to feel alive with the thrilling rush of jeep safaris. Sam Sand Dunes offers both. Located just 40kms away from Jaisalmer City, it offers a glorious stretch of sweeping sand dunes to challenge the adventurous side of you. Immerse yourself into the stunning landscape and unique wildlife that lets you experience the Thar Desert’s rare beauty and tranquillity. Marvel at the yellow sandstone buildings surrounded by the glorious dunes that light up with the golden rays of the sun.

Owing to its unique charm, the Sam Sand Dunes has become one of the most popular tourist destinations of the region. Beyond its scenic beauty, Sam Sand Dunes hold cultural significance as well. They are home to various nomadic communities like the Kalbeliyas and Bhopas, who showcase their vibrant traditions through music, dance, and crafts during the annual Jaisalmer Desert Festival. This 3-day festival showcases unique traditions and customs of Rajasthan, offering visitors a glimpse into the rich tapestry of the state's cultural heritage.

Sun, sand, and smiles

About 2km long, the Sam Sand dunes are undeniably one amongst the most picturesque in the region. The sunrise and sunset experiences are particularly something not to be missed. So, plan your itinerary accordingly. Both Camel and Jeep Safaris offer enough opportunity to explore the vast desert landscape and witness its breath-taking beauty. You may even rent a quad bike and go on a thrilling expedition across the local villages. For the ones who would like to continue the adventure, there are provisions to set camp for the night. You can check in at one of the several tent resorts near the Dunes. For travellers who want to immerse themselves into the local culture you are in luck as the place comes alive with a kind of carnival atmosphere from late afternoon till the next morning. Many desert campsites organise cultural programs for visitors to witness the state’s rich culture through folk dances, puppet shows and a large spread of delectable Rajasthani cuisine. For the rest, you can just relax and unwind, soak in the unique aura of the place or go stargazing with a loved one. If you are up for a little more than sight-seeing, these Dunes also offers plenty of adventure sports such as sandboarding, rappelling, and rock climbing.
