A sacred ritual of offering
Everyday at the Vimala Temple is marked by a special ritual that is deeply meaningful for its worshippers. Lord Jagannath's Prasad (an edible offering) is presented again to Goddess Vimala on a golden platter before it undergoes purification to become Mahaprasad (an edible offering blessed by God and distributed among worshipers as spiritual food).
Incredible legends and stories
The Vimala Temple holds an important position in Hindu mythology as one of the six Shakti Pithas - revered temples dedicated to goddess Durga or Parvati, Lord Shiva's consort. Legend has it that Goddess Sati made contact with earth here during her final momentous dance before death! It is said that Vimala is where Sati left her mark on earth!
Vimala Temple stands out as an integral component of any temple complex for devout Shakta and Tantric worshippers, even over its larger counterparts like Jagannath shrine. On special occasions such as Durga Puja, non-vegetarian offerings and animal sacrifices may be made here to appease Goddess Vimala.
