Seek Blessings in the Goddess' Spiritual Abode

Located within the lush Satpuda Mountains and gracing the banks of the Tapi River, Shree Manudevi Temple stands as a cherished cultural and religious landmark of Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district. According to local folklore, this place, known as Khandesh, is deemed the spiritual domicile of the Goddess Manudevi who is the family deity of more than 70 percent of the families residing in the vicinity.

The temple is flanked by gentle hillocks and overlooks a stunning 400-foot waterfall, active for the better part of the year, contributing to the location’s tranquillity. The adjacent man-made lake, coupled with a picturesque Hanuman Temple, adds to the site’s allure, making it a favourite among pilgrims, students, and tourists alike.

The Legend of Shree Manudevi

Within the sacred texts of the Devi Bhagwat Puranas, the divine trinity of Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva, and Lord Brahma convened within a secluded cave nestled in the Satpuda ranges, the area now revered as the Shree Manudevi Temple. Faced with a dire crisis, they meditated deeply and their combined energies manifested into the emergence of Goddess Manudevi, embodying the collective strength, wisdom, and power of the trinity. The deities implored the Goddess Manudevi to take on a formidable avatar to vanquish the demon Mahishasur to restore peace. Moved by their plight, Manu Devi fought for several years with multiple transformations to annihilate the demon and his evil forces.

Today, the Shree Manudevi Temple stands not only as a site of her mythical battles but also as a beacon of faith, where the stories of her valour continue to inspire reverence and courage among her followers.

Mythological Genesis

Discovered in the year 1251, the temple’s ancient excavations hint at its longstanding spiritual significance, enriched further by the colossal trees that are believed to embody Lord Parshurama's welcoming presence. These silent sentinels seem to guide devotees towards the sanctum of Shree Manudevi, enhancing the site’s mystic allure.

At the heart of Shree Manudevi Temple’s spiritual calendar are the vibrant festivals that mark the cyclical journey of the year, infusing the air with awe and festivity.

Navchandi Yagnya: A Vedic Ceremony

Twice a year, during 'Chaitra and Magh Shudda Ashtami,' the temple grounds resonate with the chants and offerings of the Navchandi Yagnya. Pola Festival: Celebrating Agrarian Roots

During the auspicious time of Margashirsha and Pethori Amavasya in Shravan month, the temple celebrates the Pola Festival, deeply rooted in agrarian traditions. The highlight is the Procession of the Devi, where Manudevi's idol is paraded through the crowds, adorned in flowers and jewels, symbolizing her journey across the lands she protects.

Navaratra Utsav: Ten days of Worship and festivities

The month of Ashwin sees the temple immersed in the Navaratra Utsav, aligning with the pan-Indian celebration of Navratri. This festival is marked by a series of nightly rituals, music, and dance, culminating in a grand procession on the tenth day, known as Vijayadashami.
