The name "Devara Gangapura" translates to "the abode of the gods" reflecting the village's deep-rooted spiritual significance. It is the meeting point for the rivers Bhima & Amaraja. It is home to the Dattareya Temple of Narsimha Saraswati Swami who is believed to be the second incarnation of Dattareya. People worship the Nirgunpaduka (scared sandals) of Lord Narsimha which he left behind before leaving for Srishaila.

Situated at the meeting point are the temples of Samgameshwara and Narasimha as also the hill of the sacred ash ( bhasmadagudda). There are other tirths also in the area namely Shatkula, Narasimha, Chakra, Manmatha, Bhagirathi, Papavinasi, Koti and Rudrapada.
