Like a ship on an island

In the picturesque Salvador do Mundo village of Porvorim, away from the bustling Mapusa highway, the Houses of Goa museum awaits curious visitors. Conceptualised and brought to life in 1997 by the architect Gerard de Cunha, this intriguing museum looks like a ship gracefully marooned on an island!

The moment you step inside this ship-shaped marvel, you'll be whisked away on a captivating voyage through Goan history. Each floor reveals a treasure trove of architectural models, unique building materials, stunning photographs, elegant furniture, insightful exploration panels, and even high-tech computers, all working together to depict the richness of Goan culture

A marvel of blended architectural styles

As you wander through the museum, you'll notice a delightful fusion of Konkani and Portuguese architectural styles - from the ornate doorways and graceful arches to the intricate window grills and charming mirrors. The furniture is closely tied to locals' lives, and the vibrant flowers and plants that flourish in the gardens add to the museum's enchanting atmosphere.
