Event Overview

Jagannath Rath Yatra, Panna is one of the oldest and largest Rath Yatras in India and holds a distinguished place among the country's most revered chariot festivals. Celebrated on the lines of the world-famous Jagannath Rath Yatra of Puri, Odisha, this grand religious event showcases the rich spiritual heritage and cultural traditions of Bundelkhand. Every year, thousands of devotees gather in Panna to seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath and witness the magnificent procession that reflects centuries of faith, devotion, and community participation.

Historical Significance

The historic Rath Yatra of Panna was initiated nearly 166 years ago by the then ruler of Panna State, Maharaja Kishore Singh Ju Deo. Since its inception, the festival has been celebrated continuously with unwavering devotion and adherence to traditional customs. Over the years, it has evolved into one of the most significant religious gatherings in the region, preserving the legacy of the erstwhile princely state while strengthening the spiritual bond between generations of devotees.

Festival Experience

According to the Hindu calendar, the Rath Yatra commences every year on Ashadh Shukla Dwitiya, mirroring the traditions of the Jagannath Temple in Puri. During the procession, Lord Jagannath, accompanied by his sister Goddess Subhadra and brother Lord Balabhadra, ceremonially leaves the temple to bless devotees along the route. The sacred journey begins from Panna and proceeds to Janakpur, reaching its destination on the third day. The vibrant chariots, devotional chants, cultural fervor, and participation of thousands of pilgrims create an unforgettable spiritual experience, making the Jagannath Rath Yatra of Panna a remarkable celebration of faith and tradition.
