About Festival

The Barman Mela is one of the most important religious fairs of Madhya Pradesh, organized every year on the occasion of Makar Sankranti and continuing until Basant Panchami. Held at Barman, situated on the banks of the holy Narmada River, the fair attracts thousands of devotees, pilgrims, and visitors from across the state. The spiritual atmosphere and scenic riverfront make it a significant destination for religious gatherings during this period.

 Religious Importance

Barman is known for its deep religious significance and is associated with several sacred sites. Devotees visit the revered Lord Brahma’s Yagya Shala, Rani Durgavati Temple, Elephant Gate, and the ancient Varaha Statue, which are important attractions of the area. During the fair, pilgrims take holy dips in the Narmada and participate in religious rituals, prayers, and ceremonies, seeking blessings and spiritual merit.

Beauty and Cultural Gathering

One of the unique features of Barman is that the Narmada River flows in seven streams at this location, adding to its natural beauty and religious importance. Along with religious activities, the fair hosts numerous stalls, local markets, cultural programs, and traditional attractions that create a festive atmosphere. The combination of faith, heritage, and scenic surroundings makes the Barman Mela a popular cultural and tourism event in the Narmada region.
