Step through the divine gate to salvation and grace

Vaikunta Ekadasi is one of the most auspicious festivals at Sri Venkateswara Temple, Tirumala, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Observed on the 11th day of the waxing moon in Margashirsha (Dec-Jan), its immense spiritual importance stems from the belief that the temple's "Vaikunta Dwaram" (North Gate) opens uniquely on this day. Passing through this gate, which Lord Vishnu himself opened, is thought to cleanse sins and bestow salvation.

Special rituals and pujas are performed for Lord Venkateswara from the early hours. Highlights include the majestic Golden Chariot procession (Swarna Ratham) on Vaikunta Ekadasi and the sacred Chakra Snanam ritual at Srivari Pushkarini on Vaikunta Dwadasi.

Key Experiences:

  • Celebrated on the 11th day of the waxing moon in Margashirsha (December-January).
  • The primary highlight is the Vaikunta Dwara Darshanam, where the special "North Gate" of the temple is opened for devotees, usually for ten days.
  • Features a Golden Chariot procession (Swarna Ratham) of Sri Malayappa Swamy on Vaikunta Ekadasi.
  • The sacred Chakra Snanam ritual is performed on Vaikunta Dwadasi (the day after Ekadasi) at Srivari Pushkarini.
