The Grand Sirimanu Utsavam

The Pydithalli Ammavari Jatara in Vizianagaram is a profound annual homage to Goddess Pydithalli Ammavaru, the region's guardian deity. Held on the first Tuesday after Vijayadashami, its essence is rooted in a compelling legend tied to the 18th-century Battle of Bobbili. This powerful expression of faith draws lakhs of devotees seeking blessings for prosperity and well-being.

The Jatara's centerpiece is the mesmerizing Sirimanu Utsavam. In this unique procession, the temple priest rides atop a tall, decorated wooden log called the 'Sirimanu'. This towering chariot traverses three times between the Vizianagaram Fort and the temple, with the suspended priest blessing devotees.

Key Experiences:

  • Dedicated to Goddess Pydithalli Ammavaru, believed to be a manifestation of Shakti and the sister of the Vizianagaram king.
  • The main highlight is the Sirimanu Utsavam, celebrated on the first Tuesday after Vijayadashami.
  • Features a unique procession where the temple priest rides atop a tall, decorated wooden log.
