Embark on a journey through the captivating village and its scenic surroundings, where a treasure trove of tourist attractions awaits you. A standout gem is the Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary, a true symbol of Jamnagar's identity, hosting a remarkable 314 bird species including pelicans, flamingos, herons, egrets, ducks, and spoonbills. You can enjoy the sanctuary's calm ambience whilst wandering through its well-kept nature trails, see birds in their native surroundings, and take some incredible images.
As winter unfolds, the sanctuary unveils a majestic panorama, with resident and migratory birds gracing its landscapes from Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and nearby regions. A haven for bird enthusiasts, it adds an extra layer of magic to your exploration.

Go beyond and explore Jamnagar
While the Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary takes the spotlight as the main attraction in Khijadiya, there's an array of nearby wonders awaiting your exploration. Begin with the visually delightful Ranmal Lake, where the Lakhota Palace sits like an island fort, hosting a small museum housing manuscripts, weaponry, and pottery dating from the 9th to 18th centuries. Venture to Bhujio Kotho, also known as Bhujio Bastion, a tower in Jamnagar believed to be a clandestine passage from Jamnagar to Bhuj. Don't miss the ancient town of Khambaliya, where the Khambaliya Gate, a 17th-century marvel by Wazir Meraman Khawa, stands as one of the last two structures from that era in Jamnagar. Recently restored, the gate proudly showcases its historical grandeur, offering a glimpse into the city's rich past.
A commendable achievement
Khijadiya earned international recognition as a Wetland of Importance under the Ramsar Convention on World Wetlands Day, February 2, 2022. This sanctuary, now an eco-tourist hub, invites visitors from September to March to witness a vibrant bird population. Notably, it hosted the International Bird Watcher's Workshop in 2010.
Best time to visit
To make the most of your visit, it's best to plan your trip from November to February when the migratory birds flock to the sanctuary.
