A living carpet of wildflowers

Kaas Pathar (Plateau), often called Maharashtra's Valley of Flowers, is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site that bursts into life each monsoon season. Located around 25 kilometres from Satara, this plateau, made from volcanic rocks, transforms into a stunning natural spread of over 850 species of wildflowers, plants, and grasses from August to October. The reserve forest’s unique ecosystem, spread across more than 1,000 hectares, supports several rare and endangered species, making it a dream destination for nature lovers, bird watchers, and photographers.

A beautiful journey through nature

As you walk along the paths of Kaas Plateau, you'll find an ever-changing canvas of colours - yellow, pink, blue, purple, and white flowers that cover the plateau. You’ll come across the purple Karvi blooms, the delicately shaped Smithia (known locally as Mickey Mouse flower), and the blue Cyanotis. With a restricted number of visitors allowed each day to protect this fragile ecosystem, your time here is not just a visit but an experience in one of nature’s rare treasures, like stepping into a living, breathing painting.

Enhance your visit

Beyond the plateau, the surrounding area of the Western Ghats has other attractions. Close by, the Kaas Lake provides a quiet spot for you to relax amid nature. About 30 kilometres from here you’ll find the Thoseghar Waterfall, one of Maharashtra’s tallest waterfalls, particularly impressive during the monsoon. If you’re interested in history, Ajinkyatara Fort in Satara gives you panoramic views of the city, and the Sajjangad Fort, linked to Saint Samarth Ramdas, offers a glimpse into the region's past.
