At Dajipur Wildlife Sanctuary, its roots can be traced to when it served as the hunting grounds of Kolhapur's esteemed Maharaja. Over time, this natural sanctuary transformed into a protected haven, and in 1985 was officially recognised as a wildlife sanctuary. Furthermore, Radhanagari Wildlife Sanctuary also located within Kolhapur district held the distinction of becoming Maharashtra's inaugural declared wildlife sanctuary; earning itself the name "Bison Sanctuary."
