History
The temple was likely built by the Kachchhapaghata dynasty, the same rulers responsible for Mitawali and Kakanmath, and its site later took on a second life as a fortification: in the early 19th century, the Jat king of Dholpur added bastions around the temple enclosure, transforming it into a small garhi (fort) — which is why the site is sometimes called Padavali Garhi today. This layering of an 11th-century temple within a 19th-century fort wall gives Padavali a distinctive, two-era character found nowhere else in the Morena cluster.

• Intricately carved stone panels on the temple's exterior, densely packed with figures in a style that closely parallels and predates the Khajuraho temples.
• The fortified enclosure walls and bastions added by the Dholpur rulers, wrapped around the older temple structure.

October to March, ideally in the morning alongside a visit to the neighbouring Bateshwar complex, which sits just a short walk away.

By Air: Gwalior Airport (GWL), located approximately 30–35 km away, is the nearest airport and offers connectivity to major Indian cities.
By Rail: Morena Railway Station (MRA), about 25–30 km from Padavali, is the nearest railhead and is well connected to Delhi, Gwalior, Agra, and other major destinations.
By Road: Padavali is situated immediately adjacent to the Bateshwar Temple Complex and can be easily reached by road from Gwalior (approximately 30 km). The temple is best explored by hiring a private vehicle as part of the popular Morena heritage circuit, which also includes Mitawali, Kakanmath, and Bateshwar. Public transport options are limited near the site.
