The Miracle at Bhuj

Within the town of Bhuj, in the Kutch district of Gujarat, a renowned temple built by Swaminarayan, founder of the Swaminarayan Sampraday, stands proudly. A spiritual sanctuary whose idols remained unshaken even during a natural disaster.

Situated near the Ramkund step well and the Alfred High School, the Shri Swaminarayan Temple holds great historical significance as the spot where Swaminarayan engaged with local holy men during his visit to Bhuj.

Managed by Nar Narayan Dev Gadi of the Swaminarayan Sampraday, this sect of Hinduism has created a stunning masterpiece. In January 2001, the city of Bhuj in Gujarat was rocked by a devastating earthquake that destroyed a portion of the temple. Despite the destruction, the divine idols inside the temple miraculously remained unharmed. The reconstruction of this awe-inspiring temple began in 2003 and took 7 years to complete.

The newly constructed temple now stands as a testament to resilience, showcasing magnificent architecture adorned with intricate carvings and designs. Crafted entirely from marble and gold, the temple exudes grandeur. It even offers a captivating 3D film that brings to life the inspiring story of Lord Shri Swaminarayan.

Of intricate carvings and marbled architecture

The temple is adorned with vibrant woodcarvings depicting Lord Krishna and Radha, a hallmark of Swaminarayan temples. It is predominantly crafted from high-quality marble, stands proudly on a grand podium and boasts one central dome, 25 minor domes, and 258 pillars, all intricately carved from Makrana and Ambaji marble.

The temple also houses idols of Ghanshyam, Sukh Shaiya, and other deities, making it a treasure trove of art and spirituality. Every pillar and ceiling of the temple is adorned with exquisite carvings, adding to its allure.
