A thoughtful collection
The museum’s galleries are carefully curated to present different aspects of Gandhi’s life. The first section chronicles his early years, struggles in South Africa, and leadership in India’s independence. The second focuses on his ideologies, including non-violence, self-reliance, and truth. The Painting Gallery displays artistic interpretations of key events from his life. The library inside the museum has thousands of books on Gandhi, history, and social reform, giving you the possibility to read deeper into his thoughts and actions.
Gandhi’s ashram where freedom fighters came together
Beyond the museum, the quiet surroundings of the ashram, along the Sabarmati River provide a glimpse into the simple lifestyle of Gandhi. You can visit Hriday Kunj, his humble living quarters, and stand in the same place where he planned historic movements like the Dandi March. The prayer ground, where Gandhi held meetings and recited hymns, still reverberates with the echoes of his voice.
