Kajli Teej of Bundi
Every monsoon, the historic town of Bundi comes alive with music, devotion, colours, and royal processions during the grand celebration of Kajli Teej. Celebrated with immense enthusiasm in the Hadoti region of Rajasthan, this festival beautifully blends spirituality, folk culture, and Bundi’s regal heritage. In 2026, Kajli Teej celebrations in Bundi will be held on 31st August and 1st September 2026, attracting visitors, photographers, and cultural enthusiasts from across India and around the world. Unlike the Teej festivities celebrated during the month of Shravan in many parts of India, Kajli Teej takes place during the Bhadrapada month and carries a distinctive cultural identity unique to Bundi and the Hadoti region.
Kajli Teej has deep historical roots connected with the erstwhile princely state of Bundi, ruled by the Hada Chauhan Rajputs. The festival is dedicated to Goddess Parvati and symbolises love, devotion, prosperity, and marital bliss. Over the centuries, the rulers of Bundi transformed the festival into a magnificent public celebration that showcased the kingdom's artistic and cultural grandeur.
The royal family traditionally participated in the ceremonies, and the Teej Mata procession through the city became an important social and cultural event. Even today, the festival retains its regal charm, preserving traditions that have been celebrated for generations.
