Background and Historical Significance
The Shahidi Jor Mela commemorates the martyrdom of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh, the younger sons of Guru Gobind Singh. In 1705, during the turbulent period of the Mughal-Sikh conflicts, the young Sahibzadas were captured and brought to Sirhind, where they were ordered to convert their faith. Despite their young age, they bravely refused and were subsequently martyred.
The site where this historic event occurred later became the location of Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib, a revered Sikh shrine. The Shahidi Jor Mela was established to honour their sacrifice and to remember the courage and unwavering faith they demonstrated.
