About the Event

Kumar Gandharva Samaroh is one of the most prestigious classical music festivals of India, organized every year in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh — the birthplace and karmabhoomi of the legendary classical vocalist Pandit Kumar Gandharva. The event is organized by the Ustaad Alauddin Khan Sangeet Academy, Department of Culture, Government of Madhya Pradesh, in collaboration with the District Administration Dewas.

Celebrated annually on 8th April, the birth anniversary of Pandit Kumar Gandharva, the Samaroh has been continuously organized since 1992–93. The festival is dedicated to preserving his musical legacy and paying tribute to one of the greatest voices of Hindustani classical music.

 

Legacy & Musical Tribute

Pandit Kumar Gandharva was renowned for his extraordinary contribution to Indian classical music and for creating a unique blend of folk and classical vocal traditions. The Samaroh reflects the spirit of his innovative musical journey and keeps his timeless art alive through mesmerizing performances by celebrated artists from across the country.

Over the years, many legendary musicians, vocalists, and talented young performers have participated in the festival, making it a nationally recognized musical celebration. The event not only honors the memory of the maestro but also provides a prestigious platform for emerging artists to showcase their talent before distinguished audiences and music lovers.

National Recognition & Cultural Importance

To commemorate the 75th birth anniversary of Pandit Kumar Gandharva, a special series of musical programs was organized across various cities in India, receiving immense appreciation and success. These celebrations further strengthened the cultural importance of the Samaroh and expanded its recognition nationwide.

Today, Kumar Gandharva Samaroh has become one of the most respected and widely admired classical music festivals in the country. With its soulful performances, rich cultural atmosphere, and dedication to musical excellence, the festival continues to attract artists, scholars, music enthusiasts, and tourists from across India every year.
