Kartik Mela & Panchkroshi Yatra

A Sacred Celebration of Faith at Omkareshwar

Kartik Mela is one of the most significant religious and cultural gatherings celebrated at Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga during the holy month of Kartik. The festival begins on Prabodhini Gyaras, popularly known as Dev Uthani Ekadashi, which falls on the eleventh day of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) of Kartik month in the Hindu calendar. From this auspicious day until Kartik Purnima, Omkareshwar witnesses vibrant religious celebrations, spiritual gatherings, devotional activities, and cultural traditions that attract thousands of devotees and pilgrims from across the country.

One of the major highlights of the festival is the sacred Panchkroshi Yatra, which commences on Kartik Shukla Ekadashi and concludes on Kartik Shukla Purnima with the darshan of Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga and the parikrama of Omkar Parvat. The Panchkroshi Yatra holds immense spiritual significance in Hindu tradition and is believed to bless devotees with the four purusharthas — Dharma (righteousness), Artha (prosperity), Kama (desires), and Moksha (salvation). The term “Panchkroshanam Samahara” refers to the sacred journey covering the five-kos pilgrimage circuit around Omkareshwar. Every year, more than one lakh pilgrims participate in this holy yatra, making Kartik Mela a grand confluence of faith, devotion, spirituality, and cultural heritage.
