About the Event

Karila Mela is a grand three-day religious and cultural fair organized in the Ashoknagar district of Madhya Pradesh. Held in the historic village of Karila, about 35 km from Ashoknagar, the fair attracts lakhs of devotees, tourists, and cultural enthusiasts from across India and abroad. The event is celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm, creating a unique blend of spirituality, tradition, and folk culture.

Religious Significance

Karila is home to the revered Janaki Mata Temple, which holds immense religious importance among devotees. The place is also believed to be associated with the birth of Luv and Kush, the sons of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita. Devotees visit the temple seeking blessings and fulfillment of their wishes. It is a long-standing tradition that when a devotee's wish is fulfilled, they express their gratitude by sponsoring the famous Rai Dance performances at the temple premises.

Cultural Celebrations & Fair Attractions

Every year, the grand Karila Mela is organized on the occasion of Rang Panchami, transforming the entire region into a vibrant center of faith and celebration. The fair showcases traditional Rai dance performances, devotional music, folk art, cultural programs, local handicraft markets, food stalls, and community gatherings. The colorful atmosphere, spiritual energy, and rich cultural heritage make Karila Mela one of the most significant and unique fairs of Madhya Pradesh, offering visitors an unforgettable experience of devotion and tradition.
