A living showcase of the Changpa nomads

‘A living showcase of the Changpa nomads’ resilient lifestyle, livestock heritage, and traditions’

The Changthang Nomadic Festival is a vibrant celebration of the traditional lifestyle and cultural heritage of the Changpa nomads of eastern Ladakh, who depend on livestock such as yaks, horses, sheep, and prized pashmina goats for their livelihood. The festival offers a close look at their seasonal nomadic way of life, including their traditional tent (Rebo) houses made from animal wool, which are designed to withstand extreme cold and strong winds and can be easily dismantled during migration. Alongside these displays, the festival features folk music and dances, archery, horse riding, traditional attire, and exhibitions of pashmina products and handicrafts.
