Celebrating the Divine Legacy of Lord Shri Banshidhar and Goddess Radhika Ji – Where Faith, Heritage and Culture Unite.
Rajkiya Shri Bansidhar Mahotsav is one of the flagship state-sponsored religious and cultural festivals of Jharkhand, celebrated annually at Gosaibagh Maidan, Shri Bansidhar Nagar, Garhwa district. The Mahotsav is dedicated to Lord Shri Bansidhar (Lord Krishna) and Goddess Radhika Ji (Radha), whose historic temple, located approximately 2 km from the festival venue, is one of the most revered pilgrimage destinations in the region. The Shri Bansidhar Temple is renowned for its magnificent gold idol of Lord Shri Bansidhar and Goddess Radhika Ji, believed to be among the largest gold idols of Radha-Krishna in India. According to local tradition, the sacred idol was discovered following a divine revelation to Maharani Shivmani Kunwar, leading to the establishment of the temple, which has since become a prominent centre of devotion and pilgrimage. While the temple hosts the religious rituals, worship and darshan, the main cultural celebrations are organized at Gosaibagh Maidan to accommodate the large gathering of devotees and visitors. The Mahotsav showcases devotional programmes, cultural performances by renowned artists, traditional folk music and dance, exhibitions of local handicrafts, regional cuisine, youth and cultural competitions, and tourism promotion activities highlighting the rich heritage of Jharkhand. Recognizing its historical, religious and tourism significance, the Government of Jharkhand has accorded the event the status of a State Festival (Rajkiya Mahotsav). Every year, the Mahotsav attracts thousands of devotees, pilgrims, tourists and cultural enthusiasts from Jharkhand and neighbouring states such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, significantly contributing to pilgrimage tourism, cultural preservation and the local economy. |
