Shravani Mela is one of the largest and most significant annual religious fairs in India, held during the Hindu month of Shravan (July–August). The mela is primarily associated with the sacred pilgrimage to Baba Baidyanath Dham, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.
Every year, millions of devotees, known as Kanwariyas, collect holy water from the Sultanganj Ghat on the banks of the Ganga and undertake a barefoot journey of approximately 105 kilometers to offer the sacred water to Lord Shiva at Baba Baidyanath Dham.
The month-long festival is marked by unwavering devotion, spiritual fervor, and vibrant cultural activities. Pilgrims continuously chant "Bol Bam" and "Har Har Mahadev" throughout the journey, creating a unique atmosphere of faith and unity. Extensive arrangements are made by the administration to provide accommodation, medical facilities, security, sanitation, drinking water, and traffic management for the millions of pilgrims participating in the event.
Shravani Mela is not only a major religious gathering but also a significant cultural and economic event, showcasing the rich traditions, hospitality, and spiritual heritage of the region while contributing to local tourism and livelihoods.
