Pawas Prasang – An Annual Celebration of Classical Song, Dance and Tradition
The Department of Culture, Government of Chhattisgarh, is organizing a special cultural programme, ‘Pawas Prasang’, as part of the ‘Departmental Events 2026’ series, with the objective of taking art, culture and classical traditions to the masses.
Centered around the aesthetic experience of the monsoon season and the rich traditions of Indian classical art, the programme will be held on August 21, 22, 24 and 25 at the Mahant Ghasidas Memorial Museum Complex, Civil Lines, Raipur. The programme will begin at 7:00 PM Every day.
The depiction of seasons has been a rich and enduring tradition in Indian art, with the monsoon season holding a special place in it. Literature is filled with numerous references to clouds, rain and longing, while Indian music has a long tradition of ragas and folk melodies associated with the rainy season.
Against this rich cultural backdrop, ‘Pawas Prasang’ will offer an opportunity to experience the monsoon through the medium of classical art forms. Here, nature will not merely serve as a backdrop but will become an integral part of the emotions expressed through the performances. From the gentle rhythm of raindrops to inner restlessness and the joy of nature, the many facets of the monsoon will be brought to life through the graceful language of dance and music.Through art, the programme seeks to portray the deep relationship between nature and human emotions. The diverse colours and sensations of the rainy season will be presented through the expressive movements of classical dance and the melodious waves of music.
The Department of Culture’s Departmental Events 2026 series aims to provide a platform to the rich artistic and cultural traditions of Chhattisgarh as well as those of India, while fostering a vibrant cultural dialogue between artists and audiences. In this series, ‘Pawas Prasang’ is expected to be a special attraction for lovers of classical art.
The Department of Culture has invited art and culture enthusiasts to participate in ‘Pawas Prasang’. Spread over four days, this cultural event will blend the natural experience of the monsoon season in Raipur with the aesthetic expression of Indian classical dance and music, offering art lovers a memorable cultural experience.
