Kundalpur Mahotsav

The Digambar Jain community regards Kundalpur, which is situated in the historic area of Nalanda, as the hallowed birthplace of Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara. An annual spiritual and cultural event, the Kundalpur Mahotsav honors this long-standing tradition and advances the ageless principles of Ahimsa (non-violence) and Aparigraha (non attachment).

 

Significance of the Mahotsav

 

In Southern Bihar, the event is a symbol of spirituality and local pride: 

 

• Sacred Birthplace: The majestic Nandyavarta Mahal and historic temples that commemorate the start of Lord Mahavira's earthly journey are located at Kundalpur.

 

• Cultural Synthesis: The event unites pilgrims from all over the world and combines the colorful folk traditions of the Magadh region with serious Jain rituals. 

 

• Tourism Milestone: The Mahotsav, a major location on the Jain Circuit, emphasizes Nalanda's standing as a premier location for historical and spiritual exploration.
