The "Second Mysore"

Proddatur's Dussehra Festival unfurls with a grandeur so profound it's often hailed as the "second Mysore." This nine-night (Navaratri) celebration embodies the triumph of divine feminine power over evil, primarily centered around the revered Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari Temple. Each day brings a unique adornment and manifestation of the Goddess.

During these festive days, the Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari Temple becomes the epicenter, showcasing elaborate Alankarams (adornments) of the Goddess for all ten days. The celebrations culminate spectacularly on Vijayadashami with a grand village fair and the traditional Thotti Meravani – a massive procession where the Goddess is paraded through the town, joined by deities from over 20 other temples.

Key Experiences:

  • Nine nights (Navaratri) dedicated to worshipping Goddess Durga in her various manifestations.
  • Vijayadashami, the tenth day, celebrates Goddess Durga's ultimate victory over Mahishasura.
  • Special pujas, elaborate homams, and Vedic rituals are performed daily at the Kanaka Durga Temple.
