A glimpse into the grandeur
When you enter Ranbireshwar temple, it won't take you much time to realise why it is the largest Shiva temple in North India. Here, the sanctum of Lord Shiva graces the upper level, while the revenant statue of Shri Ranbir Singh, hands clasped in prayer, humbly adores the deity. Named in honour of Shri Ranbir Singh, the temple embodies the fusion of his name with the divine, crafting the title “Ranbireshwar '' or the Sovereign of Ranbir. At the heart of this sacred space, a magnificent single-stone Shivlingam beckons the faithful. Guarding the threshold, a colossal metallic Nandi cast in brass stands sentinel, gazing upon the main deities. But the temple’s true marvel lies within its Ekadash Lingams, exquisite crystalline spires of Safatik stone, a vision of purity rarely found in other shrines, personally procured by Maharaja Ranbir Singh from the holy city of Banaras.
The temple also houses a central "lingam" made of black stone, which measures 8 feet in height, making it the largest in India. It was built by the Dogra rulers and also contained 12 shivlings made of crystal, ranging from 15cm to 38cm in size. Inside the temple, there are galleries with 125,000 "bona lingam" brought from the Narmada River, all displayed on stone slabs. Additionally, there are large images of Ganesha, Kartikeya, and Nandi Bull.
