Step into historical beauty

Visit Surajkund Lake in Faridabad, to see a place where history and culture merge beautifully. Built in the 10th century by King Suraj Pal of the Tomar dynasty, this ancient reservoir reflects the architectural and engineering skills of its time. The name "Surajkund" translates to "Lake of the Sun," and legend has it that the king, a devotee of the Sun God, constructed this lake to honour him. Surrounded by the Aravalli hills, the lake was designed to harvest rainwater, serving as a vital water source for the region.

Experience the Surajkund Mela

One of the most exciting times to visit is during the annual Surajkund International Crafts Mela (Fair), held every February. Artisans from across India and the world gather to display their crafts, textiles, and traditional wares. As you walk through the fair, you can witness live cultural performances, sample regional delicacies, and engage with artists who keep ancient crafts alive. The Mela transforms the area into a lively celebration of culture, making it an unmissable experience if you're in the region at the time.

A peaceful retreat beyond the mela

Even outside the festival season, Surajkund is worth visiting for its peaceful surroundings and historical appeal. The reservoir, though not always full of water, offers an environment ideal for picnics and leisurely walks. The stone steps around the lake provide a great spot to sit and reflect. It’s also a popular spot for photographers looking to capture a blend of nature and heritage.
