Welcome to the enchanting Porbandar Bird Sanctuary, a lovely natural haven nestled in the heart of Porbandar!

As you step into this vibrant world, the melodious songs of feathered friends fill the air and lush greenery envelops you at every turn. This tiny yet magnificent sanctuary, established in 1988, spans just 1 square kilometre but is teeming with life and colour. Once the brainchild of the passionate naturalist Peter Jackson, it became a haven for countless bird species, earning its place as Gujarat's sole legally protected bird sanctuary.

As winter approaches, the sanctuary transforms into a breathtaking spectacle, welcoming millions of migratory birds, each adding their own splash of colour to the landscape. It’s an extraordinary experience for bird enthusiasts and nature lovers alike!

So grab your binoculars and get ready for an exciting adventure!

Step into the realm of feathered wonders

Every year, the sanctuary comes alive with a dazzling array of migratory birds, transforming the landscape into a vibrant symphony of colour and sound! Here, you can witness the breathtaking spectacle of water birds frolicking in the sparkling freshwater lake while others glide gracefully through the vast, open sky. Imagine the thrill of spotting stunning Flamingos parading in the shallows, and the magnificent Pelicans soaring overhead!

Keep your eyes peeled for the elegant Grebes and the playful Ducks paddling along, as well as the majestic Geese and the captivating Avocets. As you explore, you'll encounter a kaleidoscope of fascinating species like Cormorants, Herons, and Egrets, each adding to the sanctuary's magical atmosphere.

Feel the excitement build as you might catch a glimpse of elusive Bitterns or the striking Storks! The sanctuary is also home to the unique Ibis, the charming Spoonbills, and the graceful Cranes.
