An Enchanting Island on the Krishna River

Bhavani Island is one of the largest river islands in India, spread across 133 acres in the serene waters of the Krishna River, just upstream of the historic Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada. The Island derives its names from the Kanank Durga Temple, abode of Goddess Durga (also known as Bhawani), owing to its close proximity to the religious site. Developed and maintained by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, the island is a perfect blend of natural beauty and modern recreational facilities, making it one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city.

Surrounded by mangroves, rolling meadows, pristine woodlands, and well-manicured gardens, Bhavani Island offers a refreshing escape from urban life. The calm ambience, fresh river breeze, and lush greenery make it ideal for leisurely walks, quiet relaxation, and reconnecting with nature. Early mornings are especially delightful, with chances to spot rare birds, while sunsets and sunrises paint the island in breathtaking colors.

Easy Access and Pleasant Boat Ride

The island is easily accessible by boat from Punnami Ghat in Vijayawada. The short boat journey of about six minutes itself is a scenic experience, offering beautiful views of the river and the city skyline. Boat services operate till evening, with return trips available even after the laser show, ensuring a comfortable visit for tourists.

Fun, Leisure, and Family-Friendly Attractions

Bhavani Island is designed for visitors of all age groups. Families can enjoy landscaped parks, cycling tracks, mirror maze, kids’ play areas, and open spaces perfect for relaxation. Visitors can also enjoy boating, fishing, and swimming in designated areas, making it a wholesome day-out destination.

Adventure and Water Sports Hub

For thrill seekers, the island offers an exciting range of adventure activities such as ziplining, ATV rides, wine traverse, bull ride, spider web, trampoline, low rope course, wall climbing, paintball, archery, and rifle shooting. These activities make Bhavani Island a preferred destination for corporate outings, team-building programs, and group adventures.

The Captivating Laser Show Experience

One of the main highlights of Bhavani Island is the evening laser show conducted after sunset, usually around 6:30 pm. The 30-minute show vividly depicts the history of Vijayawada, from mythological legends like Arjuna receiving the Pashupatastra from Lord Shiva to the freedom movement and modern development of the city. Colorful laser lights, water fountains, and music create a magical atmosphere, and there is no additional charge for the show. On the return journey, visitors can enjoy the stunning illuminated view of Prakasam Barrage from the boat.
