The power of less in the pursuit of happiness
The church reverberates and speaks of the teachings of the distinguished St. Francis of Assisi. Simple rules of life that his devotees and believers have lived by for years and believe to be the touchstone of a glorious life.
His first principle was that people should dedicate their lives to God because it is in the presence of the divine that they experience calm and serenity, which are then the guiding lights of a good life. The second is to live by simplicity. He was known to practice the great virtue of minimal needs. The teachings valued owning no property, caring for the poor, eating, and living simply. His third teaching was to respect the dignity of all life. He believed that all life is a gift from God. Respecting, valuing, and nurturing each, as you nurture yours is to be in the true service of God.
The trials of building God’s home
Church Convent of St Francis of Assisi was built by the Portuguese in the year 1517 by the Eight Franciscans. Some might disagree but it is believed that this church is one of the best works and a specimen of revered Portuguese architecture. Years ago, it was built as a small chapel and was later remodelled to be a church. However, a few years later in 1853 AD, it closed its doors as the government could not bear the expense of maintaining it. Later in 1964, the archaeological department took over and reopened it to the people.
