A journey to cherish forever

As you step into the forest, you’ll be surrounded by deodar trees, beautiful rhododendrons, and crisp mountain air. Spread out in the hills of Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand, Askot Wildlife Sanctuary lies at an altitude of 2,000 feet to a staggering 22,654 feet and is spread over 600 square kilometres. This sanctuary, also known as the Askot Musk Deer Sanctuary, lying below the majestic Himalayan ranges, is renowned for its efforts to protect the endangered musk deer. Named after the ancient kingdom of Askot, the sanctuary lies at the crossroads of history and natural beauty.

Enjoy both wildlife and scenic splendour

As you wander through the sanctuary, you will spot graceful musk deer grazing peacefully, hear the calls of Himalayan birds, or maybe catch a glimpse of a snow leopard. The sanctuary’s unique geography, ranging from dense forests to alpine meadows, is also home to Himalayan black bears, snow cocks, tahra, bharals (blue sheep), chirs, koklas, pheasants, monals, and chukors. It’s not just the wildlife that captivates you; the views of snow-capped peaks and deep valleys dotted with temples leave you spellbound. A trip to Askot isn’t complete without discovering its many trails and waterfalls.

Activities to awaken your adventurous spirit

You can trek through the mesmerising pathways of Askot Wildlife Sanctuary, where every turn introduces you to new wonders of the Himalayan ecosystem. Birdwatching here is a delight for nature lovers and photographers, with over 200 bird species making the sanctuary their home. You can also use this time to interact with local villages around Askot to get a glimpse into the life and traditions of the people who have coexisted with nature here for centuries.
