Submerged In Folklore And Traditions
Set in the land of tribals, Kuntala has its share of history. The history of Kuntala Waterfalls dates back centuries, with evidence of human habitation in the area dating back to ancient times. The falls have been mentioned in various historical texts and are believed to have been a popular retreat for royalty and nobility.
Coming from the country's biggest epic Mahabharata, the waterfall is said to have its name from King Dushyant's wife Shakuntala. It is believed that the queen while visiting her husband, was awestruck by the beauty of the waterfall and stopped there to take a bath and spent some quality time to find herself making it a practice to bath here hence the waterfall was acknowledged by her name "Shakuntala" which later was adapted as "Kuntala."
Kuntala also has great importance in the tribal culture. It is believed that the surrounding tribals, who are now lesser in number used to pay their immense respect to the Waterfalls and pray to the waterfall for their betterment and their good fortune. Moreover, the waterfall is also believed to be a centre of celebration for the tribals.
The Epitome Of Love And Boundlessness
The waterfall is also a romantic space, not just because of its picturesque but because of the local folklore attached to it. The story is of Kuntala Falls' own Romeo and Juliet who loved each other immensely and were from rival tribes that hated each other. But the lovers found solace under the majestic waterfall and when the world fought this flowing water supported their love.
It goes to show how just a stream falling from stones can play such majestic roles in creating beautiful histories that remain with us for all time and for generations to come.
