Historical background
The Bodhicharya Meditation Centre traces its roots back to the vision and teachings of Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, one of the foremost spiritual masters of the 20th century. Born in Eastern Tibet in 1910, Rinpoche was recognized at a young age as a reincarnation of a revered Buddhist saint and embarked on a lifelong journey of spiritual realization and enlightenment. With a deep commitment to the preservation and dissemination of Tibetan Buddhist teachings, Rinpoche founded numerous monasteries, retreat centers, and meditation halls across the Himalayan region, including the Bodhicharya Meditation Centre in Gangtok.
Teachings and practices
At the heart of the Bodhicharya Meditation Centre's teachings is the cultivation of mindfulness, compassion, and wisdom through the practice of meditation and contemplation. The centre offers a variety of meditation techniques and practices drawn from the rich tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, including shamatha (calm-abiding), vipassana (insight meditation), and tonglen (compassion meditation). Guided by experienced meditation instructors and spiritual guides, practitioners are encouraged to cultivate a deep awareness of their own minds and emotions, leading to greater clarity, inner peace, and spiritual realization.
